    Problems with xvid encoding

    Hi to eveyone.

    I am a new subscriber from Turkey. I have been reading the questions and comments of this forum for a week and I believe that I mostly solved my problem but I still need help.

    I am trying to convert the xvid of Bruce Almighty to MPG format to watch it on my DVD player.

    First of all there was a problem with Virtual Dub. "Improper VBR audio..." With the help of the comments of this forum I saved the audio file as uncompressed and than tried to convert it at TMPGenc. I am also trying to put a subtitle on the movie in order to watch it with my family.

    However I had different problems:

    *When I tried to put subtitle from vdub (video filters) TMPGenc it could not recoginize the relevant .vdr file and says it could not be opened or supported

    *I also tried to put subtitle with the help of submux. Although I could watch the movie with the subtitle in .AVI format TMPGenc could not see the subtitle during encoding.

    I really would be appreciated if anyone could help me..

      Hmm, I don't see why you're trying to merge the subtitle with the movie using TMPGEnc. What I suggest is that you burn the subtitles permanently into the .avi using vdub, then changing it into mpeg-1. I myself, haven't changed any of my subbed avi files into mpeg-1 after I merged them together with vdub, so I don't know how much the quality of the video will be affected.

      Also, you said .vdr? what file extension is this for? the subtitle?

          I actually tried to add subtitle with Virtual Dub and submux.

          I don' t know the technical details about the .vdr file. However you can use at TMPGenc for the .avi files that you want to convert.

              How I added subtitles and burned to VCD was the following:

              I made the subtitle file with Substation Alpha (extension .ssa)
              Then I merged them together using vdub to make a divx avi file with subtitles burned permanently into the video.

              Thereafter, it's simple avi to mpeg-1 conversion then burn with Nero.

              So if you still can't figure out the significance of that .vdr, try using Substation Alpha.

                  I am trying to convert xvid to vcd, more complicated than convrting divx. I am exactly following the same prosedure as you explained. But with the problem that I mentioned I have to make something different. I hope someone in the forum would share his/her experience with us.

                  I can also inform you if you want to learn the solution. I hope I will find the solution during this weekend.
