Why MPEG2? R u trying to make SVCD's? If not, then why MPEG2?? File size will be large (get a DVD-Burner if u want to convert to MPEG2!)

DVD's are MPEG2 format so there is no need in ripping them, unless u mean that u want them on SVCD for some reason, please clear this up

It's because I've seen a mpeg2 rip of a dvd which had a better quality than all the divX rips I've ever seen. The average bitrate of the rip was 2200. I know that this is really high but the quality was nearly equal to the dvd's quality.

ask the person u saw doing this rip.

Get a DVD burner then! Because I don't think the rips will fit on one CD! or even 2!

hmm, MPEG2 better than DVD?? Never heard that one before! if u use DIVX low motion, the quality is the same or sometimes can be better than DVD quality, depending on source.

hmm, let me have a think

The film lasts 3 hours. It is riped on 4 700mb cds and the quality wasn't better than dvd. It had nearly the same quality.

Why do u want to "rip to MPEG2"? Use DIVX! It is the same, some times better, quality then DVD and fits on one CD!
