xvid to dvd problem

i have this xvid encoded film and i wanna convert it to dvd but none of the programs ive tried will even open it as a video source. ive tried virtual dub, tmpgenc, ulead dvd movie factory 2 etc and none of them will take it. I dont get why because ive installed the xvid codec and it plays fine. anyone know why this is happening.

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

i cant load it in virtual dub either. Ive tried it with another xvid file and that wont work either, so i think it must be a problem with xvids in general rather than the one file. virtual dub says

"Couldnt locate decompressor for format 'XVID' unknown.
VirtualDub requires a video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by windows media player are not suitable."

I dont understand this as ive installed the codec and it all plays ok in media player etc

no problem. i fixed it now. it was a directshow codec or something i installed so i installed the proper one from the tsunami filter pack.
