    Something weird..... mpg to avi

I got these 2 movie parts that are around 800mb each, in the mpg format. I wanted to join them together and change that file to a smaller divx file, but Virtualdub, DrDivx, Xmpeg, Flask, easyvideojoiner, gspot, peck join, dont reconize these files... The only player that will play these mpg files is PowerDvd 5. I'm guessing its a vcd or svcd, and I've never converted a vcd to avi, is there software like vcd2avi, or svcd2avi out there, I searched but no can find. I've never been a vcd/svcd person, always divx conversion.
    thanks

Do they go into VDub for File Info?
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

No vdub says: "no video frames found in MPEG file" .... but I have watched these mpeg files using PowerDvd 5. I found this new software at www.vcdgear.com that will change vcd format files into regular mpg format files. But even in plain mpeg format vdub still says same statement above, and Easy video joiner wont join the 2 files... after vcd2mpg convertion using vcdgear - DrDivx will load the converted mpg file, and is converting it to divx avi. Will have to wait to see if the avi file works after DrDivx and then see if I can join them using either vdub or easy joiner....
