    join and compressing avi's

I am trying to join 2 avi's and compress it to fit one cd

so far i have used virtualdub and drdivx to join and compress it to fit one cd and its been working great with video/audio synch and such but i have noticed that virtualdub is having probleming joining some types of videos and i would get errors like

    Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DIV3' (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion])
is there a better way to join the two ?

and is there a better way to compress it to fit one cd other than dr divx ?

    Thanks

    "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DIV3' (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion])"

That indicates you need to install the DivX 3.11a codec.

"and is there a better way to compress it to fit one cd other than dr divx ?"

    You just mentioned it. Virtualdub.

        This should help:

        1. Open first .AVI file in Virtualdub/nandub/VirtualdubMod.
        2. Append second .AVI file in Virtual/nandub.
        3. Set Video tab to Full Processing Mode.
        4. Set Audio tab to Direct Stream Copy.
        5. Under Video, select Compression and choose the DivX (or XviD) codec. Input the new bitrate that you have determined using a bitrate calculator. Choose 2-pass encoding mode in order to minimise loss of quality.
        6. Go to File -> Save as AVI and give a name to the new file.

        Regards.

Hmmm.. I'm trying to find the audio Tab in the VirtualDub... On a previous version it was near the Video tab, but in the latest, it's not there and Gspot reports audio wasn't compressed in some files (AC3 PCM WAV instead of mp3 for example).
          Vdub is "VirtualDubMod_1_5_10_1_All_inclusive".

            Cristanu,

You can find the Audio settings in VirtualdubMod by going to the 'Streams' tab -> Stream List.

            Regards.
