Best Way to convert Mpeg2 to Divx

I was fooling around with Gordian Knot the other day and realized that you can encode mpeg-2 to divx instead of vob to divx. What you do is in DVD2AVI when you open a file it specifies the type of stream to open (.vob) but change it to all files and click on your mpeg-2 file and for the rest of encoding just follow the guide in divx-digest's article section named "DVD to Divx 3.x using Gordian Knot" or the "DVD to Divx 5.x using Gordian Knot".
