Mpeg -> DVD covertion help (I'm getting a resolution error)

    Hey guys

Im new to the forum, as you can see. I have been using the search option in the forum to try and find my problem but ive had no luck. Hopefully you'll be able to help..

I've downloaded my first DVD from the net but its in "movie" or "mpeg" format. I have figured out from previous searches that I need to convert this to DVD format and then I can burn it using Nero. I have downloaded tmpgenc Author to convert the file, however, I am getting the following error message:

The video resolution 480 x *** (can't remember) cannot be used for a standard dvd

You can only use the following:

    352 x 240, 352 x 480, 720 x 480 (NTSC)
    352 x 288, 352 x 576, 720 x 576 (PAL)

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

    Cheers!
    James

if it's 480x480 that's svcd. alot of dvd players won't play that resolution. use TMPGenc to convert the file and TMPGenc DVD Author to author. If running win 2k or win xp you can burn with Tmpgenc dvd author also.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've just checked and the resolution it will not accept is 480 x 576.
When I try and open the file in tmpgenc plus (to resize it I get this error message:

"File "F:\File Name.mpg" can not open, or unsupported.

Any ideas? Could this be because there is an error in the file? When I wathced it through it did seem to pause near the end of the DVD. If this is the case is there a way around it?

      Cheers

This indicates your file is a rip of a commercial DVD, and hence, against rule 6 of this forum (http://forums.digital-digest.com/misc.php?action=rules). You don't normally need to mention the name of the file to have your problem solved.

go here http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools?section=6#6 and d/l "DV type 1 to DV type 2 converter. Unzip and put the file "m2v.vfp" in your TMPGenc plus folder.
