3ivx--any point or pointless?

While scanning divx-digest software download section I noticed the 3ivx codec. It appears to be an mpeg-4 codec with a close link to the mac platform. My question, is there any advantage of this codec over divx?

Definitely not in the PC world. It was intended to be a cross platform codec, but the developers have shifted (as of about 6 months ago) all of their efforts exclusively to the Mac version.

The existing Windows version is extremely slow and yields inconsistent results regarding both quality and audio/video synchronization.
