    Virtual Dub: "The segment is not from the same video clip" error...

    Plz help, I downloaded 2 segments of this one movie but they won't join. The first segment had a different frame size, which I changed with the resize filter to match the second segment using VD. But then I get the aforementioned error message AGAIN upon joining even though the "File Information" for the 2 segments are the SAME. They have the same frame size, same fps, same decompressor, same audio sampling rate, same audio compression, etc... What could be the problem and how can I solve it?

    Any help or advice is GREATLY appreciated!!!!!

    1) Which version of VirtualDub are you using?

    2) Exactly HOW are you attempting to append the second file?

      Start VirtualDUB and open segment 1, start VirtualDUB again and open segment 2. Adjust size and framerate so both will be the same. For both segments start VirtualDUB's frameserver. Now you have 2 virtual avis on your hdd. You can open and append them in a 3rd instance of VirtualDUB and encode them. VirtualDUB's frameserver is described in the help-file.

        I'm using VD 1.3c. I first encoded the first segment to make it the same frame size as the second segment. That was the only thing that was different between the two files. I used Divx Low Motion as the compressor, set Compression Control to 75 and set Data Rate to max (6000 kb/s). I left the audio in direct stream copy mode.

        When I try to append it, I open the first segment and then append the second segment on there. Video and audio are set to direct stream copy. I still couldn't fix this problem. Is there another program out there that may work for me?

          I would suggest to you that you created yet another difference when you adjusted the framesize - by setting Compression Control to 75 and Data Rate to 6000Kbps. therefore, in order to make the two files compatible, open VirtualDub (by the way, you should probably update to one of the 1.4xxx versions) and load the SECOND file only. Select the Divx Low Motion as the compressor, set Compression Control to 75 and set Data Rate to max (6000 kb/s). Save with a new filename.

          You should now be able to append the new File #2 to your resized File #1.

          Let us know of your success ;>}

            K, after getting the lattest version of Virtual Dub, it gives me this message now: The video streams have different sampling rates. Both segments have the same fps in the File Information so should I do now? I tried the thing you suggested but I still get this message.

              "same fps"

              Apparently not. The "File information" shows video FPS only through 3 decimal places, while VDub actually compares to 4. If, for example the first file shows as 23.962 (while really 23.9623) and the second shows as 23.960 (while really 23.9607), you'll need to change BOTH of them to the same framerate, e.g. 23.9620. (Make sure that "Vidoe" is set to "Direct Stream Copying")

              "The video streams have different sampling rates."

              Unless something has changed drastically in VDub, the rest of that error message indicated SPECIFIC 4 decimal place framerates for each of the two segments.

              Don't give up the ship - yet ;>}

                I changed the frame rate for both segments with AVI Changer (from doom9.org) and I get this even stranger message:

                Cannot append segment: The streams have different sampling rates (23.97679 vs. 23.97679)

                Virtual Dub got me....

                  "I changed the frame rate for both segments with AVI Changer"

                  It almost seems as if you're going out of yuor way to make things more difficult than they need be. In VirtualDub, under the "Video" dropdown menu (after you've changed the setting to "Direct Stream Copy), you'll see the word "Framerate". Click on it and change the first file to 23.9760. Then save that file with a new name. Do NOT exit VirtualDub. Load the second file (you've already made all the required settings). Save the second file with a new name. Exit VirtualDub. Restart VirtualDub. Load the first (revised to 23.9760) file. From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Append AVI segment" and click on the name of the second (revised to 23.9760) file.

                  If this doesn't work for you, I'm afraid I've run out of suggestions...
