Include a subtitle directely into DivX file

    Hi everyone !

I have some trouble with including subs in a DivX video. I have a DivX video of stargate (680Mb) and the subtitle file in .srt and .ssa format.

Now the trouble is, i'm using subtitler (virtual dub filter) to include the subs directely into the movie, but then virtualdub tells me i have to be in full processing mode to be able to use filters...

So i have to compress again an already compressed file, and the quality gets super low...

Any other way to include subs without this trouble ? Please help me !

    Never mind

i found a way to make virtualdub read mpeg2 files, so i can do the full encoding of the dvd using it, plus include the subs in one shot

      Only two possible ways...

      1) recompress the whole avi to make the subtitle part of the picture. Use a filter tom make the text more smooth and use a higher bitrate than the input-avi.

      2) Use a special player like microDVD that supports subtitles in srt or ssa format.

I use dvd2avi to create a project with the vobs of the files, then vfapi to create a virtual avi from this project.

Then virtualdub can read the virtual avi file, and i can apply the compression only once

well yes sure ! That's what this forum is for

But I need to know a few things first :

            1. what is the source movie ? a DVD ? a AVI ?

            2. what is the subtitle's type ? SRT ? SUB ?

Reply to those so that I can give you the full procedure

            Thanks !

from avi i want to make svcd.I use srt to ssa converter for the subtitles,vd with the subtitle plugin, and cucusoft avi to svcd conerter to convert the avi to mpeg,Than i burn the movie with Nero.Ok i know now how to work with vd and to merge the subtitle to the movie but i have another problem. The resulting svcd movie has 2 problems. When i watchit in my stanalone dvd player the sound is in front about 2 sec and the subtitle remains also 2sec ahead.Sorry for my poor english!!!

how about when u watch on the PC ? is it fine ? Many DVD players aren't too good for playing SVCD...

if that's the case try making a VCD only...

from avi i want to make svcd
If that's what you want, your problems are gone: Use DVD2SVCD, despite the name it can make SVCD from AVI's and it's very easy to use.

Grab it on the official home: www.dvd2dvd.org

Using this app, you don't need to worry about these subtitle conversion you've been talking about, you just have to choose "rip subtitles" in the subtitles tab, and then choose "add subtitle from external file" when you press the "convert" button.

Any doubts using this program, come back and ask or visit a DVD2SVCD forum.

PS: This program requires you to have TMPGEnc or other encoders (CCE or Canopus) installed.

                    See you!

SVCD means mpeg2, be aware TMPGENC isn't free for mpeg2 encoding...

I think a free alternative would be DVDx that can encode mpeg2 as well.
