.VOB to .AVI Conversion Problem

I'm trying to rip out a few specific parts or clips of a certain DVD and then convert them to AVI files.

So far, I've used DVD Shrink to select and pull out the sections I want. I have the .VOB files, but have been unable to convert them to another useable format (i.e. DivX AVI, MPEG, ect....).

I've tried DVD2AVI, DVD-to-AVI, DVD2MPEG, and each time I either get corrupted output or a bad file as output...

What am I doing wrong? Am I going about this in the wrong way?

Use a program called VirtualDubMod. (a variant of the regular Virtual Dub) The program has an mpeg filter and will be able to open a straight VOB file. Go to "File" > "Open Video File" and load your VOB file. Then go to "Video" and select "Full Processing Mode". Then go back to "File" and "Save As" and save with a filename of your choice. Depending on the size of your VOB, the conversion to AVI might take an hour or so.

do as ormonde said but don't forget to go to video, compression, and choose your encoder ie divx or xvid, or else you will have a very large uncompressed avi file. I also choose audio, compression and choose my audio compressor to make the video and audio what I want.

ok..i just did the vdm thing with an mpeg movie and when i tried to save it i got no "stats file found", and also error code 1...i guess this means i cant use virtual dub mod to convert this mpeg to avi. any other ideas, or is there something im doin incorrect. thanks in advance for any help on this troublying issue.

just so you know this.....

is what i did in virtual dub mode.

1 opened the mpeg file using open video file
2.under video i went full compression and i choose xvid 4
3 i saved the file...

3) Is it MPEG-1, VCD, MPEG-2, SVCD, or .VOB?

4) Does the MPEG file play properly?

5) Load the original video file into VirtualDubMOD - and from the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information". Then post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

mpeg to avi...

hi there the source from were the mpg came from was the dish using a card ...the file does play great in mpeg format..which is the way the file was produced.,....the format......i still cant get it to create smooth running avi...its blotchy and has boxes..or squares....ok..hope this helps in gettin other possible solutions for me to make an avi...was hoping to go straight from mpeg to avi....i mean the conversion....thanx in advance for any help...
