3.4 GB Avi file HELP !!!!!!!!!!

I Recorded A Movie, But Fell Asleep While Recording
Now I Cannot Read The File Because It Is Too Big.
Is There Any Software That Will Enable Me To Successfully Split The File Down To 2 Files. The Movie Itself Would ONLY Be About 1.5 GB.
Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

What format is the file in?

Have you PLAYED it to be certain that it's not corrupt?

nandub or virtualdub should be able to input them, i ve already successfully compressed a 4 GB file

Unreadable File

The File Format Was An AVI.
I Tried Virtual Dub...............With No Success
From My Understanding Of Windows, It Cannot Read An AVI Over 2 GB - I Recorded Another Movie Today And It 2.2 GB - Windows Could Not Read It And It Was Created (In Real Time) Using Media Studio Pro v6.0 (AUD $1300) - If Anything Could Do It It Should Be That Program

Thanx For The Tips I Will Endevour To Find A Program That Will Just Split No Matter The File Type (One Day - LOL)

if your os has file size limit 2 GB (mine has 4) than u JUST CAN NOT RECORD MORE THAN 2 GB (at least with freeVCR, never tried with other capture progs, i have captured once > 4 GB and at 3,99 GB it stopped!!! but i still could open it in Nandub)

why the hell does your input not work??

lol tell ya what it is if its from dvd to avi ya bitrate is far 2 high try a bitrate calculator if ya did it in tmpgenc then ya should choose direct stream copy for audio and vidio and yes direct stream does work i wont have it any otherway

this will still add a bit of size to ya mpeg but if the avi is prity small then so will the mpeg. as for re-reducing the file

The File Format Was An AVI so does that mean its now an mpeg

if so do mpeg to avi but have really low bit rate like 300 or sumot if tmpgenc wont take it cos it 2 big try vcd cutter then re-encode the 2 halfs

Can you move the file to a Windows 2000/XP machine or upgrade yours? They don't have this limitation.

If this program CREATED the file, you certainly should be able to load the file back into it - and use its editing capabilities (which I presume it has, based on the price you've indicated) to cut off the unneeded part.

What O/S do you have on this system?

As Thrawn indicated, if your system is capable of creating a file of that size, it should also be able to handle it. ANY program that I've used on a system with a 2GIG filesize limit ALWAYS stops generating an output file when it reaches a filesize of 1.99Gigs - so it's hard to understand how you're generating files greater than 2Gigs.

Did you try something as simple as trying to PLAY the file under Windows Media Player?

lol dont try him to open that big file in windows media player, i tried once a 2,5 GB file or so and media player just didnt do anything *lol* (this was my first prog shutdown in win 2000)

better use other players like the playa or sasami2k

BTW - What Is The Best Codec For Encoding To Mpeg - I Ask Because The Codecs I Have Come Out With A Block Apperance To Some Of The Movies Especially When A Plume Of Smoke Is In The Frame - And What Are The Best Settings For Such Codecs To Get The Best Possible Picture Quality ?
