    Shrinking MPEG2 files

Hi, I just got the ATi TV Wonder VE card. When i record a show lets say an hour long, the file size is 3 gb. I download movies all the time that are 700mb and are perfect quality. I was wondering how to shrink these 3gb files to files that around 700 MB so i can burn them to a regular cd. please help. Thanks alot

also, i use a program called beyond tv 3. i changed the recording format to windows media format. i recorded csi tonight to test the quality and i thaught it was perfect. the file sizes are considerably smaller, around 1 gig per hour, so how do i convert those. what do u recomend. recording in mpeg2 or windows media? thanks for the help.

Use a program called VirtualDubMod. (different from Virtual Dub)

mpeg2 is required for standalone DVD compatibility although I believe I spotted a player the other day advertising wmv - such is the speed of change
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

To compress an AVI or mpeg file in VDM, do the following:

                    1. Open your video file ("File" > "Open Video File")

                    2. Go to "Video" and select "Full Processing Mode"

                    3. Go to the "Video" dropdown menu again and select "Compression". In the left-hand window you will see a list of available compression codecs. Pick one of your choice.

                    4. Go back to "File" > "Save As" (F7) and save with a new file name. If you have a 3 Gig AVI file, the conversion process could take awhile. To get the maximum compression (smaller file size) I would suggest trying an Xvid compression codec.
