    Windows Media Encoder or VitualDub ?

    Hello guys. Please help me to understand.
    I captured 1h50min from vhs (formula 1 grand prix) 352X288 with not a good quality and tryed to encode it in VirtualDub on DivX3.11 codec with 6000 kbps(tryed to use lower kbps but it's not take place on this resolution). So I got 2.16 GB ??? Why ?
    I tryed to use Windows Media Encoder (wmv) on 1500 kbps - 1.4 GB. Why so huge difference ? Why Windows Media Encoder may work with constant kbps (if i'll use 1500 kbps in VDub nothing changing on this resolution).

    Please give me a sugest how to make avi file in VDub with same size and quality as in WME.

    Thanks.
    Anton.

    "tryed to use lower kbps but it's not take place on this resolution"

    I have had no trouble converting either a 352x288 MPEG1 or .AVI file under VirtualDub, using the DivX 3.11 Fast Motion mode set to 910 Kbps - with excellent visual results. Using these settings, a 2 hour 352x288 video should be no larger than 600Mgs (Probably significantly smaller than that)...

    By the way, I hope you're also compressing the audiostream ;>}

        I use VirtualDub 1.4? for encode with DivX 3.11 codec.
        The video was captured from VHS through Pinacle Studio 7 and DC10+(videocard).

        This video has not a good quality and I compresed audio by mp3 in VirtualDub.

        Thanks
        Anton

            Have you tried the settings I've suggested?

            Of course, if your initial captured video is of poor quality, compression is not going to improve it. If your system is capable, you might try capturing at a much higher resolution, such as 704x480.
