Avi. to VCD encoding error

Hey, i need help encoding an .avi file to VCD using the Mainconcept Mpeg encoder. I cant seem to open any .avi files , an error message keeps popping up saying '' No Video data'' or '' No Audio Data'', but the files work perfectly fine on DivX. Can someone help me with this problem please?
