    TMPGenc cannot open AVI

    I have TMPGenc 2.58.44.152.
I'm trying to open a Divx v3 avi for encoding.
I get an error that says the file: cannot open or, unsupported.
The files play fine in media players.
The file is the 2 cd DVD rip Frag1e release of Mission Impossible 2.

I changed the AVI VFW Compatibility Reader to a priority of 1.
    That didnt help..

Anyone have a clue as how to resolve this or how to get these files on to an svcd?

btw, TMPGenc will open the file as an audio source. But as a video source it gives the above error message.

    thanks.

Try doing this with the directshow VFAPI instead of the AVI VFW.

This should allow TMPGEnc to open anything that WMP can open, but I would suggest putting things back to normal when you're done.

Thanks for the reply. I have changed the DirectShow Multimedia File reader priority to 1 and 0, but i'm still getting that cant open, unsupported error. Gladly accepting any other suggestions.

Open the file in virtualdub, take note of any errors.
Demux and/or frameserve it to tmpgenc.

          Thanks,

I got this error with virtualDub 1.5.6:

          Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'Div3' (Microsoft High-Speed-MPEG-4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion])

Virtual dub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

So now I'll get some codecs..

You need to download and install the DivX v.3.11alpha codec...

At least it wasn't some unknown version of Xvid!

What specific program(s) have you attempted to use to open the AVI files?
