Re-encode a 720 mb divx/xvid file to 700 mb

I have a lot of 720 mb movie files that I need to resize to 700, which is only about 3-5 %

Been browsing this bord to a couple of hours but have not been able to find the right information.

Question: What's the best way of re-sizing the file, with the smallest lose of
picture quality?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming you want to burn these videos to a cd. 1st check to see if your burner supports overburn (most burners nowdays do). Using Nero with the overburn feature I've consistantly been able to burn files in the 730-735 mb range with no problems. If this doesn't work you can use Vdub or one of it's mod's to cut out the credits at the end of the video, if you don't mind losing them. Otherwise you are going to have to re-encode, time consuming and some lost of quality.

There are also 800 MB CD (r, rw) disks on the market, but check to see if your burner's firmware supports them.

But i'm looking for correct info as to what is the best solution to my question.

i was thinking something in line of just changing the bitrate, and leave the rest of the file intact. If its possible i don't know, but it will only be on Divx/Xvid clips.

No other way is an option to me, in a perfect world i would just go buy a dvd burner for my divx clips. I have a divx/Xvid player and a lot of 680 mb discs i need to use.

You could certainly do that, but you would lower the overall quality of the clip(s). I think my previous suggestion of looking into purchasing 800 MB CD writable disks would be the perfect solution in your case given the fact that you stated in your last post: "I have a divx/Xvid play and a lot of 680 mb discs i need to use." Why would you want to "Re-size" and loose quality when you can just purchase a higher level of media and retain the original quality of your Divx/Xvid clips?

i have 1000 680mb discs i need to put into
use lol thats pretty much my reason for doing this.

the reduction i need is mostly from movies that on split onto 3 disc, so the over all quality of the clips are very high, further more the reduction i'm looking for is very small, 720-700/720 * 100 comes to a 2.77 % redution of the file.

I'm a little new to the encoder sceen, so what i'm looking for is someone to take my
hand and tell me, listen here noob what you do is; for divx download program X and do this, i know for a fact that this is the best way of doing this.

I know that there are many other ways of doing this, but i'm really only looking for
this one way.

Of course you wont get the same picture quality as if you encoded the movie to 700mb to begin with, i understand that, but i also believe that it must be possible to do this reduction with a minimum quality loose.
