How to Fix / Repair DivX-AVI Files

How to Fix / Repair DivX-AVI Files

    Dear folks,

I've recorded video clips with my digital camera, directly attached to the PC via USB. On the PC I used the Dr. DivX software to capture and encode the videos instantly. Unfortunately the USB-plug fell out of the camera two times, thus Dr. DivX crashed. Now, AVI-files which were captured are not viewable:

    1. If I open the first file in Media Player Classic, the first frame is shown, but the picture freezes immediately, the audio stream continues normally. In the "normal" Media Player there is an error message.

    2. When opening the second and the third file, I can watch them, but not seek through using the seek bar of Media Player Classic.

When trying to open the clips in VirtualDub in order to encode them newly, it says that VirtualDub "couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown)" and that "DirectShow codecs" can't be used.

How to recover / repair / fix the clips and convert them to another format (or recompress them correctly to DivX)?

    Thanks in advance!

    Sincerely
    Peter

Simply "Download" the files again from your camera to your PC and make sure the USB connection remains secure.

I'm sorry, maybe I didn't express myself clearly:
I switched the digital camera to webcam mode and used Dr. DivX to directly capture the video stream which was transfered through the USB bus. There are no files saved on the chip of the camera.
I did so, because the chip would have been full after a minute of recording or so, while the recording time is only limited by the size of my HDD when capturing directly.

"There are no files saved on the chip of the camera."

Then unless there is a way to "Re-capture" again, you are probably out of luck, since having an unsecured USB cable has caused critical loss of information within the file(s).
