If you're ripping from DVDs, you can use Flask's built-in subtitling feature, or use VobSub with Virtual-/Nandub. Otherwise, if you wish to create your own subtitle scripts, use Sub Station Alpha, but as a warning, it will be a tedious task.

    Good luck!

I'm not very experienced with insertion of subtitles into DivX movies and the only way you can do that (that I'm aware of) is to use the subtitler filter for virtualdub (http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_filters).

However, it only accepts SSA (Sub-station Alpha) format subtitles. Hence, if your subtitle file is not in this format, you will have to find some way to convert it into this format. Anybody knows?

I'm quite interested in finding out too. I tried, once, to convert a set of subtitle script into SSA manually and gave up even before I reached 25% of it.

I don't remember exactly how, but I used a subtitle that I downloaded separately from the movie and then, with the MicroDVD player i could choose which subtitles to add to the movie file I wanted to open. It worked great.
