dvd shrink cant find specified file

i used tmpegnc to convert an .AVI file and the file was to big even when i tried to tweak the bitrate. so now i am trying to use dvdshrink to shrink it down to fit on a dvdr and when i try to "open file" with dvdshrink i get an error message that says:
"dvdshrink encountered a fatal error a cannot continue.
    failed to open C:documents and settings\pete\"file name"\VIDEO TS.IFO
the system cant find the specified file"

can someone please help me. thanx

DVD Shrink cannot be used with .AVI files - It can ONLY be used with DVDs...

Now that you've created an MPEG-2 DVD-format-compliant, you have to use a DVD AUTHORING program, such as "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc"), to create the required DVD structure and files (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs)...

so i should use an authoring program before i try to shrink the file?

is it ok that i converted even though tmpegnc told me the file was to big?

"so i should use an authoring program before i try to shrink the file?"

Yes - As I said, you have to use a DVD AUTHORING program, such as "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc"), to create the required DVD structure and files (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs).

Then you can use DVD Shrink with these REQUIRED files in the REQUIRED structure...
