tmpegnc says file is to large

i am trying to convert a .AVI(xvid) file that is 1hr and 55mins long to mpeg2 so i can burn it to dvdr. when i get to the page where i can adjust the bitrate so the file will fit on the 4.7G disk it tells me the file is to large. i got an error that said:
the movie is to long to output
the file cannot exceed 3hrs(180min) if audio format is linear PCM.(the file is only 1.55hr.)

what have i done wrong? i have had this problem before and cant fogure it out. the audio is mpeg 3(mp3).

thanks in advance. i am really frustrated with crap.
if i dont reply to any messages today i will tommorow.

it is because the audio is VBR mp3 (variable-bitrate)... tmpgenc doesn't like that, so here is what you do:

    1. open up "virtualdubmod", and load your avi file
    2. under "video" select "direct sream copy"
    3. under "streams, click "stream list"
    4. right-click the audio stream, and click "full processing mode"
    5. right click the stream again, and click "compression"
    6. select mp3, 320kbit/s, CBR. then click "ok"
    7. click "ok" again
    8. under "file", click "save as avi", and save with a new file name

    good luck

i am a total newbie to this stuff. once i get virtualdub mod these instruction you just gave me are to convert the video wright? and then from VDmod i can go about authoring the dvd?

is virtual dub mod the best program to use and is there a tutorial on it any where?

when i got to the audio i selected mp3 and the largest setting was 56kBits not 320kBits. what should i do?
this is the part i am talking about:
select mp3, 320kbit/s, CBR. then click "ok"
      thanks for your help!

That's because "ziadost" is using a version of the Fraunhoefer .MP3 codec, a different .MP3 codec than the one that comes standard with Windows...

yup, download an mp3 codec (search through google)

and no, the instructions i gave are NOT for converting the video, but the AUDIO. tmpgenc does not like the format of the audio the avi file has, so follow my instructions and you should be fine.

Yes, as far as I know, it's legitimate freeware...

                      no problem

"how did you guys learn so much about this stuff?"

for me it all started when dvd's were created... we were all newbies at one point

for a basic virtualdub guide, try http://www.doom9.org

for a tmpgenc guide, try http://www.afterdawn.com

i really appreciate you guys! this is the best forum. i have posted questions at other forums and this is by far the quickest, the most informative and the nicest. i know sometimes my questions seem dumb to people who know alot, but i have had people act like i was some kind of idiot or they just wont answer my question. everybody has got to start somewhere. so thanx.

i am going to recomend this forum to my friends and to anybody that asks me an AV related question. =)
