    xvid smoth&bitrate problems

    hi...
i am trying to encoding "garfield the movie" at maximum quality allowed in 4.5gb (i want to burn it on a dvd).
    I am having some problems.
I user gordianknot to calc the average bitrate and avi file size.
i load the default settings and then i enable:

    First Pass:
    Profile @ level unlimited
    Global Motion Compensation
Motion search precision: 6 - ultra high
    VHQ mode: wide search
    Use chroma motion enabled
    Trellis quantization

I use same configuration for 2nd pass and a target size of 4461216 (7922 average bitrate).

I am using Xvid 1.0.2 codec.

The problem is that my final xvid movie does not have a size of 4461216 and not a average bitrate of 7922, but more and less 2.2gb and 2000average birate.
    This is the first problem.

the second problem is that the movie dont have a smoth play, i mean: it lloks like i am playing it on a 200mhz processor (like a game with low fps rate) i cannot understand why, i already try watch the movie in different computers and this happens always.

    thanks for anything,
    sorry bad english

Answer to first problem: your encoded movie has reached its maximum "saturation point" at 2.2GB and hence will not benefit from any more file size increase.

As to your file playing slowly, it could be because your computer(s) cannot cope with the relatively huge bitrate. There may also be something wrong with your settings (try re-encoding with most of the default settings in place).

Alternatively, you can just back-up the movie straight into DVD (without conversion to XviD format). I personally favour this approach in this case.

    Regards.

xvid/divx is usually used to get a movie onto 1 or 2 CD's

as you have a dvd burner, use 'dvd shrink' to compress your dvd, and make it fit onto a single-layered disc.

        thanks for all guys.
the problem of slow playback is i have installed k-lite codec pack 2.27 and it caused problems @ encoding.
about puting it on a DVD using dvd-shrink is that i´ve lost the author(i am not shore if is really that) of the dvd.. xvid conversion is the best way..
        i solved everything now.. thanks!
