DivX -> DVD - NeroVE smart encoding on or off?

Hi

like to encode a Divx to DVD using nero vision express with fixed bitrate. There are several options for quality of conversion possible to combine:

a) smart encoding on -or- off
b) 1-pass -or- 2-pass quality VBR

Tried now some constellations but couldnÂ´t find the best solution for sync and it seems there are only minor async differences but they seem to appear....does anybody has some experiences which combination gives best syncÂ´s for encoding and best quality?

What software procedures are you using (or planning to use) for the conversion?

basicly 4:3 - progressive sample format - AC3 stereo...
