first download and install a program called "gspot" it is freeware and tells you what codecs you need for a specific file. load the "avi file" into it and post a screenshot of it here...."One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888

Hello "setarip", I have downloaded the "FFDSHOW" Filter and extracted it's contents. I will try all of these latest ( to me) codecs/filters and see what happens, will let you know... Thanks for your response, I am very new at this and can use all the advice that I can get.
Hello "columbo999", I will inform you also of my progress/degress - lots of stuf on my computer now. I will look for "nobodies business" item- thanks again my very responsive friend - RonComment

Columbo999 and setarip - Thank you again for your interest and valuable support. I downloaded the "gspot" as "columbo suggested and downloaded "FFDSHOW" filter. AND, I don't have the jitters in the AVI format anymore, SO something worked! BUT, now I am confronted with the AVI files not running from start to finish without stopping for small periods of time? No continuity of flow BUT no jitters???? I have been told by some local "Gurus" to install the Divx "divx521xp2k.exe" file. I downloaded the Divx file but it will not load unless I accept a trial period package? I just saw my friend do this without the trial result - I'll keep trying to get the "divx521xp2k.exe" file to function and run all "AVI' files from there..... Thanks again for all of your help. very sincerely RonComment

TO MAYBE2
sometimes my avi's lose continuity due to the pc processor not being able to keep up(especially when multitasking). it may be similar to what you describe. however i noticed this doesn't really happen when they are converted to mpeg-2. i found also power dvd almost never "jitters" for playback of almost every file type.
with regard to the divx codec 5.21, when installing you are asked if you want the 6 month trial, or just divx. select "no just give me divx".
when in doubt of "smoothness" i burn a test file to a -rw disc.
thats how to get some answers quick. good luck!Last edited by LT. Columbo; 16 Apr 2005, 03:53 PM."One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888
