    Use Virtual Dub

Use Virtual Dub. Just open up the AVI file in virtual dub, and then under video select direct stream copy, and under audio also select direct stream copy. Then mark in your movie from the begining, and go to about the middle or someplace that is not in the middle of a scene, and do a mark out. Then do a "File --> Save AVI as, and give it a new name. Like Topgun_part1. This will save just that half of the movie that you marked. Once that is done you must then open up virtual dub again and open up the same 800MB Avi file that you did before, and "mark in and mark out" the last half of the movie. make sure that video and audio have direct stream copy, and that you use the save avi as... Thats it. Take each half and burn it to a CD. After you are finished you can delete the 800MB file if you wish. Good luck to ya.

Just thought I'd add how you selected the start and end of movie
move the slider down the bottom of the screen to the start of movie

      Press HOME

Movie to approx half way on slider

      Press END

Make sure direct stream copy is enabled in video and audio then choose save as AVI under file, then when completed, without moving the slider

      Press HOME

      Move to end of slider

      Press END

      And save as AVI again

Why don't you try AviSplitCalc , it's so much easier than cutting with vdub and because it relies on nandub it's also a lot better at handling special audio streams.
