    TMPGEnc Encoding Issue .. underflow

OK, I'll go over what I've already done and address the issue at the end.

TMPGEnc was used to pull an ac3 and m2v from a VOB on my hard drive.

I go to File->MPEG Tools and choose Simple Multiplex.
I choose MPEG-2 (VBR) out of the drop list.
I don't need the audio so I rename the video file to prevent automatic association.
The .mpg path defaults to same folder.

    I click run.
    The encoding proceeds.
The error '165958 s packets cause buffer underflow. The MPeg file might cause error when it played.' appears.

I wanted to ignore this but when I play the video back in Windows Media Player, there are several 'fast forward' glitches in the footage. Looks like it's skipping frames or something. It levels out but I can't just ignore the glitches.

Before we continue. I've already tried it with audio using the .ac3 file. Same error. Secondly, I've already tried to increase the priority
on the Directshow Multimedia File Reader so I can convert the audio to mp2. Still can't import the audio. Not an issue though, I don't need it.

Using Windows XP on a new Acer Aspire laptop. 512 Megs RAM.

    What next?

    Lost in video land.

Welcome to the Digital Video Forums of Digital Digest!

"I go to File->MPEG Tools and choose Simple Multiplex."

I presume you mean "Simple DEmultiplex". Have you tried using "DEmultiplex" instead - and leaving ONLY the videostream checked?

        Hmmm

OK. I apologize. I assumed that my choices in the software indicated what I was trying to do.

        I have an m2v and I want an mpeg-2

I do not mean demultiplex. I've already done that. I'm just not certain how to get the conversion to mpeg-2. In most of the instructions I've seen for the software getting the mpeg-2 from an m2v involves simple multiplex. It produced the above mentioned error.

Setarip. I notice that you are very active here and quite knowledgable.

I'll go ahead and try to DEmultiplex the VOB video only, but since demultiplexing is seperating the streams anyway, I can't claim to understand how this would change the outcome. I'll post again if it turns out different.

I've followed your steps for how you do it (the ones in red after your posts) and it breaks down when I try to make and mpeg-2 from my m2v file. I get the dreaded underflow error which has more entries in this forum than I bothered to count. Unfortunately, when most of these fellow posters reviewed their mpeg-2, there were no visible errors. Mine on the other hand is messed up and I couldn't quite devine from the multiple posts, what I should do about it. Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone. I look forward to your responses.

But you stated, "I don't need the audio so I rename the video file to prevent automatic association." I, for one, have no understanding of what it is that you're attempting to multiplex (Which usually is a reference to joining and interleaving a videostream with an audiostream).

If you have already extracted an .M2V file from the .VOB, simply change the extender from ".M2V" to ".MPG".

If you're doing something else, it's unclear to me. So please be good enough to:

          1) State what it is you're trying to accomplish
          2) In a step-by-step fashion, starting with decrypting the original DVD, describe the procedures you've used

"I've followed your steps for how you do it (the ones in red after your posts)"

Those items are part of what is known as a "signature" - and have nothing to do with extracting/converting streams from .VOBs. This appears to cause confusion (You're not the first to misinterpret it), so I guess I'll have to modify it a bit (Check it out in an hour or so, after I've altered it)

Ah, I see. This is where the pros teach us rookies the stuff. I had been misinformed about what multiplexing was doing. Now that I have the correct notion of what multiplexing is up to, I can go ahead and say thanks for clarifying my lack of understanding. Many thanks all.
