DVD+R to DVD-R Conversion (HELP!!!)

I know this subject has probably been exhausted on this board and believe me, I have searched for solutions all over the web. Maybe my keyword or terminology is just wrong but here goes:

I copied a video movie onto a DVD+R with a DVD recorder (not a burner). The movie does not play on a number of older DVD players and therefore, I need to burn it to a DVD-R. I am using Nero 6 with a Sony DVD burner but the program keeps telling me I have to insert a DVD+R disc.

How do I convert DVD+R to DVD-R?

i'd use dvd shrink and do a full disc back up, then burn those dvd files on to a disc of your choice.

Thanks Lt. Columbo. I've tried DVD Shrink but it does not recognize the DVD. I get the following error: Open Disc - No disc in drive.
Open File - Drive is not accessible

Any other suggestions?

If your burner supports bitsetting/booktyping burn it as a DVD-ROM on DVD+R for the greatest compatability
