    DivX to AVI Conversion

    I'd like to share some of my DivX movies with my PC challanged friends. However, there doesn't seem to be much out there for this conversion other than AVI2VCD. I tried it and all is OK with the exception of everything is way too tall! It took the widescreen original and tried to make it full screen. Anybody out there more successful at it?

    Are you trying to actually mention DivX-compressed AVI files being converted to VCD format, and that you used the program AVI2VCD? I trust TMPGEnc will suit your needs better.

      Been doing more reading and was wondering about that one. Will try it out. Didn't know it had that capability. Thanks!

              I used TMPGEnc and got great audio and completely black video. Being new to this prog any hints/tips.
              Also, what is the best way to get from MPG to VCD format on a CD-R?

                I'm guessing, based on your results, that the DivX-compressed video used the new DivX v.5.0 codec, which TMPGEnc (and most other similar software) cannot handle at present. If this is the case, and you really want to make the effort for the sake of your friends, I'd suggest that you do the following (assuming that you also have either DivX v.3.11alpha or DivXv.4.xxx installed on your system:

                Load the file into VirtualDub and resave using one of the other DivX codecs. TMPGEnc should then be happy to generate both video and audio output.

                Let us know of your success ;>}

                  You are exactly right. As soon as DivX 5 came out I had to try it.
                  I will give it a try and let you know (although I'm not sure they are really worth it! )
                  Thanks much.
                  Will letcha know.

                    Well, use DIVX 3.11alpha because it is great quality and you can fit a whole DVD movie on one CD with DVD quality results.
