Whats an easy hi-quality program to take the Video_TS and VTS files and burn them to DVD once I finally get the AVI converted?

Is nero really any good? I once tried to burn a DVD with Nero - it reconverted the files an produced a very inferior quality DVD. So, I'm hesitant.

Also, if I want to play the VS....files in a viewer, like VLC, what file do I open in the viewer?

ah. that's different. i'm suggesting just the burning. not converting. if you have dvd-ready files is what i meant.

for the other part use MPC

Just a quick note to Mr. Columbo: Thanks!

I got my 3 AVI's joined using Virtual Dub.

And I've now ripped my very first DVD using RipIt4Me/DVD Decrypter & company.

            Now a hopefully simple question:

What's an easy & high quality method to convert a 2:34 Hour AVI [OpenDivx V4] so it can be viewed on a standard home DVD player. I really don't understand much about all the various formats. Unfortunately I don't know if the DVD player can handle Divx/Xvid at this point.

            Thanks!

for avi to dvd i use TMPGEnc Plus/TMPGEc DVD Author (trialware)

for a clip of that length i encode at mAx bitrate, then in the end use dvd shrink with quality settings

also there is avi2dvd (freeware) you might try. guides to both are on the forum.

                Great! ...And thanks!

I've just been reading that AVI--> DVD isn't such a good idea if at all avoidable, due to quality loss. Any comments on this?

yes there is some, but if you use good bitrates with that encoder or max>shrink the loss isn't even noticeable on a tv (to me).
