Converter: .avi files to Mpeg4

Seeking a recommended Converter .avi files to Mpeg4

Any good recommendations. So far the only converter that works is AVS- $29. Any opinions on this one or know of a better one.
I tried Blaze, ConvertMovie, WinPG, Easy DVD Rip, SmartSoft, none converted to MPEG4. ImToo does convert but did not recognize my video files so could not input. Xillsoft recognized files and offers MPeg 4 but did not create playable files?
So if you have any recommendations I'd appreciate it. Other conversion tasks i need to handle, are .VRO files convert to .VOB files I know Tsunami can do this I read somehwhere in these forums MovieStudio does also. Any thinkg better out there or recommendations between these two?

an .avi file is an mpeg4 when compressed. Try Virtualdub mpeg2 (free) with xvid (free) to compress to mpeg 4

avi is a container and has nothing specifically to do with MPEG-4. XviD is an MPEG-4 codec and XviD can be stored in avi, it can also be stored in mp4 (official mpeg-4 container), mkv, ogm, dsm, nut, etc. AVI's can also contain other streams, like VP3/5/6/7, MJPEG, AVC, etc. So just because an avi contains compressed video doesn't make it MPEG-4.

What exactly do you mean by Mpeg4?
