Hi there everyone,

First of all thank you to all of those who have replied to my posts earlier. Your answers have all been very helpful.

I have another one (go figure

I have a AVI file with a Frame Size of 576x240. When converting to SVCD won this become really terrible quality ? I notice when I choose a Super VideoCD in TEMPGenc that the Frame size is 480x480.

Wont this in reality mean that the software will just stretch the AVI file to fit 480x480 and therfore the picture will loose quality ?

if you use VirtualDub to add upper and lower black borders of 168 pixels each (2x168=336. 336+240=576), you will then have a video of equal horizontal and vertical resolution, without any distortion of your video. When you convert this to 480x480 SVCD you'll suffer no "proportion distortion".

Is there a guide I can follow to do this ? I have never used virtualdub before.

There's no such thing as a "lame" question - unless you don't ask it!

1) Load the video into VirtualDub

2) Set "Video" to "Full Processing Mode"

3) Set "Audio" to "Direct Stream Processing"

4) From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Filters"

5) Click on the "Add" radio button

6) Doubleclick on the "Resize" filter

7) Set "New width" and "New height" to 576 and 240 (The present size of your video)

8) Set "Filter mode" to "Precise Bicubic"

9) Put a checkmark in "Expand frame and letter box image" - Enter settings of 576 and 576 - Set color to Black

10) Click on the "OK" radio buttons (one after the other, to get back to the main screen

11) From the "Video" drodpown menu, select "Compression" and select the same codec that was used to create the original video

12) Click on the "OK" radio button

13) Fro the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and save with a new filename

Won't TMPGEnc's "Keep Aspect Ratio" option do the trick ?

Doing what you proposed will look "just fine" on your PC's monitor, but (depending on what additional resolution factors you've entered under the "Video" tab) when played on a standalone DVD player (the only reason to create an SVCD, rather than a "plain vanilla" MPEG2 file) will result in an unviewable collection of disparate little boxes or an extremely distorted image...
