I've been having problems with playing my avi files and then.. it tells me that it couldn't find 'vids:xvid'. I was referred to a site and I downloaded the Xvid-1.1.0.exe file. I'm having installation problems.. and then I was told to locate the 'xvid.ax' on my system because it's either it isn't there or it is there but I need to remove it manually on my pc. It isn't there at all.. and I don't know what to do to be able to install the new Xvid codec I downloaded. Do you know where I can download the 'xvid.ax'? Or better yet.. do you know a better solituion than downloading it? ^____^
need a little help with xvid

this is what I found out about why I couldn't install the new xvid codec properly..
" If you don't have the xvid.ax file installed on your system already the problem is most likely that you don't have the required priviliges to install the XviD codec. The installation program needs to be able to create some files in the Windows system directories as well as update the system registry. Make sure you have these privileges or contact someone who has them to get help. "
I'm not sure if I have to download the xvid.ax file since for those who have it on their system and the new xvid codec couldn't install properly, the xvid.ax file is required to be manually removed..Comment

if you choose the xvid route (like me) install xvid 1.0.3 koepi's latest bulid. remove all the current xvid first, then install this one. you won't get any installation problems."One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888

get VLC (videolan) player from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
make sure you get the zip package, it doesn't require installation, or even codecs, so you should be able to play on any account on any pcComment

You can put them whereever you want. That is kind of the point. I prefer mplayer myself though. Also requires no installation.
Another option is Media Player Classic since it can dynamically load filters. Just copy xvid.ax and xvidcore.dll or Koepi's standalone xvid.ax to the same dir and load it. Can't remember the commandline offhand, however I think if you run mplayerc.exe /help it lists them.Comment
