Nero questions

I have a couple of questions about nero I was hoping someone could help me with. They are probably silly but and before anyone says so I know TMPGenc is the way to go. Its just that I want to know the answers.

Whilst thinking about TMPGenc I have a question

Ive seen on some threads people saying if you want to make a vcd then select template for mpeg1-vcd or something like that. Is this on the newest version because my version simply gives two options mpeg1 and mpeg2. it mentions nothing about vcd or svcd. I appreciate it probably is the same thing I was just wondering what version is best.

Once Ive created my vcd or svcd in TMPGenc do I then use the vcd/svcd option in nero (with the appropriate mpeg2 plugin) to burn them to cd or just use the 'create data disk' option in the wizard?

Secondly I read on a thread that you should be able to take a divx and load it into nero and create a svcd using the plugin.

When I try this it invariably starts encoding but when it reaches about 13-14% it bombs out and says theres an error. The divx plays fine and sounds fine on the pc. So I was wondering where the problem might lie? The divx file is about 618mb in size.


Will using a divx file 618mb in size in neros svcd end up with a file of the same size/bigger/smaller?

Any help greatly appreciated by this newbie

i dont know about the divx file but as for the other questions..
to get to the templates for tmpg ..click on the "load" tab at the bottom of the screen after you have loaded your file..
search for the tmpg folder..then the template folder..there should be templates that say " vcd 1246kbps(ntsc).mcf" or similar.
then in nero you select the appropriate format such as vcd or svcd..whichever you used in tmpg.

I see what you mean about the templates - couldnt see it for looking! Is the latest version of tmpgenc better than the older free version?

Ive seen some threads that say once you've made your mpeg in tmpgenc and then go to nero you dont have to use the vcd/svcd format because youve already made the mpg using tmpgenc and you simply copy it over. But other threads like yourself say you do use the vcd/svcd format and this is why I was getting a little confused.

I would have to say that from my own experience - simply burning mpeg from tmpgenc to cdr - that it didnt work. I'll try using the vcd format next.

If anyone else has an answer to the divx question I'd be most grateful. Can nero burn a divx via its vcd/svcd plugin to cdr?

I tried vcd and it would have non of it and on svcd it got to about 13-14% and then said there was an error and stopped.

Do I need to have the divx at a certain resolution ( I used 640*420), audio of a certain type etc.


The divx played fine on the pc.

WOW you type soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for a couple little questions. First of all mpeg 1 is vcd mpeg 2 is svcd. You should convert the movie using TMPGEnc to mpeg. Then use the VCD selection of Nero. And Drag it in. I have had problems using Nero to convert the movie from DivX so I wouldnt recommend using it. And In TMPGEnc click on setting and then change the following information if it is not correct:

Audio: 44,1000 224kbits/s
Video: 352X240 29.97fps

That is incorrect. VideoCD is a MODIFIED (header) version of of MPEG1 format and SuperVideoCD is a MODIFIED (header) version of of MPEG2 format.

If they were one and the same, TMPGEnc wouldn't have different mode settings for each...

I guess even "gods" make mistakes ;>}

Use TMPGEnc's "MPEG1-VideoCD" settings (or it's VCD template/wizard). Then, in NERO choose the option of (only) BURNING as VCD (NOT FORMATTING as VCD, since you've already done that with TMPGEnc)...

Havent tried yet. Ive just reformatted my drive and am starting afresh. Have made some space on unused partitions etc to take these large files.

Ive installed so many programs, codecs etc that now I'm slowly getting the hang of things that I want to start over.

Ive decided to go with, smartripper, dvd2avi, vfapi , nandub and then tmpgenc.

I'll finish setting up the system tonight and then try recomendations tomorrow.

I'll keep you posted.

thats exactly what i did..lol...when i was learning (since i dont just rip ..i make videos) i literally installed hundreds of codecs, programs, all kinds of crap...after i figured out what i was doing i started all over..restoring the computer back the way it was when it was new.now i dont have so many errors either..haha.
