2 Problems I have. Please Help

I am having problems with two things. First is joining two avi files when I try joining using avi joiner it states the files have two different audio rates one at 148 i think and other at 184. Program does not like it so fails is there anyway around this? Other problems is when converting avi dvd I get poor quailty converstions on dark scences. A scene during the day is fine in using covertx2dvd for this. Has anyone else had the same problems or any solutions or what could be causing this?? I don't think its the sofware as I have also used dvd santa and still get the same thing.
