making subtitles optional on output MPEG 2?

    Hi,
I have been having some trouble using vobsub along with TMPEnc in order to encode subtitles onto a video. What I would much rather do is have the subtitles as an option when you play the burnt dvd on a dvd player. The program DivxtoDVD was working fine for me- I would just add in the subtitles, and it would create a subtitle track that can be optional when watching the dvd. Can I ask how I would do this if I am using TMPEnc to encode an avi file to MPEG-2 format?

Also, I am new to using TMPEnc... the output, even though it's set to create a MPEG-2 format, is one file. Isn't it supposed to be a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder for burning? What must I do in order to make the output file one which you just burn onto a DVD with a program like Nero? I'm using TMPENc 2.5, the free version which has the MPEG 2 output option for 30 days. Thanks very much

You need to have a DVD author program such as TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVD-Lab to author DVD your file.

Since you use TMPGEnc Plus to build MPEG-2 file and you also have subtitle, You can de-multiplex the MPEG-2 file with the MPEG Tools of TMPGEnc Plus (Go to File -> MPEG Tools -> Simple De-multiplex. Then use the free version of Muxman to mux or combine the video, audio, and subtitle together. You can download Muxman from here:

Well, I did try loading the video with TMPEnc DVD Author, but it ran into problems when opening the video. It mentioned the resolution, fps (30 in this case), and it says "A video sequence header is necessary for every GOP in standard DVD". Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks again

I don't understand how you ended up with the frame rate of 30 fps and an incorrect video sequence header. Although it is true that you can use the pulldown process to switch from 30 fps to 29.97 in NTSC formmat and use TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools to repair the incorrect video sequence header, I would like to recommend you to fix the problem from its root by starting over the process of converting DivX to DVD with the help of LT. Columbo's excellent guide from the link below:
