    Making a DIVX smaller...

Im a big fan of That 70's Show and the epi used to be 63Mb but someone else have taken over the ripping and is making the eps in 120mb insted.

But 120 is too much for my HDD so I want to make the epis smaller somehow (to 63mb

    120mb INFO

    320x240
    29.9 FPS
    39680 Frames
    DIVX 4 LOW MOTION
    235 KEY FRAMES
    Divx 4 Low Motion

    22 kHz
    Stereo

    63MB INFO

    320x240
    29.9 FPS
    DIVX 4 LOW MOTION
    39 773 Frames
    1224 Key frames

    44 Khz
    Stereo

---------- HOW CAN THE 120MB EPI BE BIGGER? And how do i get the size down.

I believe you've switched your captions around - the file with 22,050Hz audio and only 235 keyframes is most assuredly the smaller file...

      Using Virtualdub

      1) reduce audio bitrate
      2) reduce video bitrate
      3) reduce resolution
      4) cut certain parts (such as beggining or end credits)

either or a combination of these steps should yield a smaller file size.

Simply put, reencode the larger file using a lower bitrate.

Or you can use DIVX 3.11alpha for a lower file size.

Try reducing the frame rate a bit, but I don't think it is going to affect the file size.

3.11alpha WILL reduce the file size.

You can use nandub to do a 2pass and enter a specified size u want the file to be!

this is a simple thing but helps
take out the opening and ending
or reduce bitrates for those bits

              get a bigger HD:

Providing live updates on CS2 prices to help you find your perfect skin at the lowest price.

They are like $1/GB. One 23 minute episode has to be at least 175MB's to retain 95% quality, and 233MB/episode to retain 99% quality.
By looking at your stats of the two video's I would first suggest to reduce the frame rate to either 15fps or 24fps.
              in Vdub->video->frame rate-> decimate by 2.
Direct stream copy this and see how it looks, if its too chopy then forget it do this:
              Load the video into TMPEG
              settings->advanced->inverse telecine
You should see 5 frames with frame 1 and 3 highlighted, this is fine. Save the project and load the .trp into VFAPI then load the VFAPI avi into vdub or ndub for encoding. This should effectivly create a 24fps avi. If this doens't work go back and select the first 4/5 frames and repeat, I forget which one works...or you can just buy a bigger HD.
Also if you REALLY REALLY want to decrease the quality that much, keep it at 22,050Khz, and create a mono wav. Then encode that at like 32Kbps, and you can still retain fair sound quality.

No i have not mistaken.. the one with 44Khz is the 63MB...

So exactly what should I change... and how .. I have VirtualDub but have never used besides cutting movies.

Ok so ill change the bitrate where?

"Ok so ill change the bitrate where?"

                  1) Load the file into VirtualDub

                  2) Set "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"

                  3) Set "Video" to Full Processing Mode"

                  4) From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Compression" and choose the same codec that was originally used

                  5) Click on "Configuration" and change the bitrate (by moving the slider) to whatever you prefer. Click on "OK"

                  6) FRom the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and save with a new filename

                  Let us know of your success ;>}

I found out be myself.. But im so grateful that u did a (noob guide).

How can i see the original bitrate? I looked under prefrences (in windows) and it said 98kbit on the 120mb and like 50kbit on the 64mb...

But when i used virtualdub and changed the bitrate to 50 i got a 25mb file and poor quality.

So i tested some and with 250 kbit i get a file (57mb) with decent quality. Something must be showing the wrong info.. but what?

And could u give me a tip on a good calculator that i could use to get exactly 63mb file.

Another problem is that the files i make are not half as bright, as the original. How could i solve that?

                    Im using the newest VD.

Windows Explorer is not showing it properly. Don't trust it.

Most bitrate calculators will do a good job at it.

Load up a brightness/contrast filter in VD.

I already made my first good enc epi. I made it on feeling and the VD "Projected File Size" helping a bit.. The quality was pretty nice I got rid of some freeze frames and the size was satisfacting (64mb)

Just a small question for further enc, where/with what.. Can i see a files video and audio bitrate?

Open your video in VD and open File Information. The bitrate of the video, however, cannot be determined easily from there and a calculator will help you determine the bitrate better (You have the filesize and play length. You're only missing the bitrate. ).

                            Ok Ill test that

brw I found out what was ****ing upp my brightness.. Sometimes i play CS and therefor I need HIGH brightness (and because of my crappy monitro I have to change it in WINDOWS) So VD must have used my prefrenceses av default and then added the (brightness of the original movie) making it alot darker than it should be...
