    Low quality to high quality?

Hi, i'm pretty new to all this. I searched the web and didnt find anything.
I have downloaded first season eps of simpsons and seinfeld. Each were around 40 MB files. Pretty crappy quality, can't watch in full screen. Here's my question. How do you encode it to a better quality (good enough to watch in full screen)? i'm trying to record it to mpg with the tmpg program

Although other posters may refer to the many different filters (and their many different possible settings) that are available, the old adage still holds true - "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear".

actually, I have made crap quality in to a better quality video.

try this (not guarenteed to work on all situations)

encode the avi in TMPGENC as MPEG2 (brighten the picture a bit)

encode one after the other with these settings:

      720*576
      640*480
      320*240/352*288

so, basically, load the avi and encode with res no.1 then load the encoded mpeg2 file to res no.2. then encode this mpeg2 file to res no.3

Then convert to DIVX using vidomi/flask etc...

I have tried it. believe me it works and you will not lose quality.

try it, no harm in trying and let us know.

The thread's really starting to go off-topic, eh?

However, it's true that you can't increase the quality of an existing low-quality video. You may enhance a few things here and there, but in the end, it's still a low-quality video you have there. Downloading new better ones will definitely be a good solution, especially if you have the bandwith.

p.s. That impatient so that you have to self-promote yourself, conda? Nice new 'avatar.' Your number of posts still indicates your 'junior' status though.

Conda---digital video overlord---talk about a shameless self promotion

Anyways, as Enchanter mentioned low quality will always be low quality, you can't do much to improve it. Increasing the bitrate, or resolution probably won't help.

Please Don't Download Kazaa If You're Thinking About It!

Sorry for this off-topic post to this thread, but I find it important to inform everyone. The p2p Kazaa filesharing network software ITSELF is spyware, and it also comes bundled with lots of third-party adware and spyware content. As for the files themselves, who knows really. Perhaps they are really legitimate, but the Kazaa program is not. Sorry about my off-topic post, but I wanted to keep someone from making a mistake and downloading Kazaa. And Conda, I'm not trying to take a hit at you nor anyone else, but I just need to inform you.
You can check the site report at McAfee Site Advisor or My Web of Trust if you have doubts.
Again, sorry for the post, for I am but a lowly newbie.

Why resurrect a thread from 2002 that is discussing illegal downloads and processing of pirated material?

I can't understand why this thread wasn't locked back then for a Rule 6 violation but perhaps a mod will now oblige?
