joining avi's with different sample rates??

    hi,
i have an avi which has been split into 3 files, and i want to join them back together. when i try to do this using virtual dub, it says i can not join them as they have different audio sample rates as they are all VBR.
i have tried exporting the audio as WAV, then re encoding the section, and then tried to join all three parts, but i am still haveing problems, with audio sync and other size niggles.
just wandering if anyone can let me know how to join all three parts of the file with same audio, video rates and resolution etc. i would also like the size to stay the same, cheers

    try this
    1. load the first clip in Vdub
    2. set video to "direct stream copy"
    3. set audio to "full processing mode"
    4. re-encode audio to 128 kbps 16 bit stereo (I use lame for audio compression, excellent tool and free)
    5. repeat the above steps for the other clips.
    6. when done load the first re-encoded clip
    7. click file> append avi segment and load 2nd clip
    8. repeat step 7 for the rest of the clips
    9. make sure both audio and video are set to "direct stream copy"
    10. click file>save as avi
