Codec Questions

Can I tell what codec's I have. I installed divx 5.01 and I lost 4.01. Why? The reason i say its lost is because it doesn't show up in flask as a codec to use. Is there a file where all these codecs are put or is it all in the registry.

I just used 5.01, and i am used to using 4.01 and the movie seem to turn out better with 4. It looks like a lot of droped frames. Any suggestions on settings with 5.01. I usually just change the bitrate and leave the other settings at default. Mostly because it the movie came out fine without touching other settings (with 4.01). Thanks for any help.

Divx 5 overwrites version 4 (same file name) so you have to use available patches for them to co-exist.

What are the patches? Why did 5 overwrite 4?

Because DivX5 is supposedly an upgrade over 4.x. They really do look very much the same, except that 5 has many extra features. The underlying interface remains the same.
