Merge avi of different resoltuions ?

I have 2 avi that i want to join. My problem is that the avi have the same frame rates, audio & video codecs, bitrates, etc except the resolutions. Is there any way to join such avi which hav different resoltuions without re-encoding them in TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress cos i usually join such type of avi in xpress by re-encoding them & dat consumes a lot of time.
