    Guys;

    obviously it is handy to do:

    MiniDV -> mpeg2 -> editing, etc -> mpeg4

    i compared the above sequence with a straight:
    MiniDV -> mpeg4
    and I "think" the quality was better...(?)

    Is it my imagination or the double conversion of the first scheme does indeed reduce some quality ???

    cheers

    yannis

    BTW; I have some video on DivX (I don't have the original ) and I want to do some editing on premiere; any ideas of what to do with the signal after I edit it??? If I save it again as DivX the picture is bad while if I save it uncompressed it is too big unnecessarily!!

      But it doesn't lose quality the way I do it. I re-encode the file about 2-4 times so it is ace quality then to DIVX fast motion so I always get NEAR DVD and DVD quality results!

      Thanks

        Similar question about miniDV

        Hi guys, I have a related question about miniDV...please see the post I made here:

        It is about deinterlacing before encoding for dvd playback.

          Still want to convert MiniDV to DivX

          Hi guys,

          I've tried Omar's advice to open MiniDV AVI file with virtual dub using AviSynth. It was all fine with the video, but virtual dub produced no sound, even then playing the input file.

          Thanks for any sugestions,

          Viltar

              yep, I've just checked.
              VD plays sound with the other files,
              Media player also plays sound with miniDV file aaa.avi,
              but then I open aaa.avs with Directshowsource("aaa.avi")
              VD does't make any sound

                  I'm using VD 1.4.9, hope it's the latest...
                  but can AviSynth play tricks and not pass through the audio streem?

                    Yeh, 1.4.9 is the latest, I have never had an issue with this before as I did it once.

                    I dunno about AVsynth as I never use it!

                    Sorry

                      Hi,
                      I find Adobe premiere compatable with my "funy type of DV audio streem"... guys says they use LSX plugin for premiere to convert it to MPEG 2.
                      After long search I didnt find any full version of the plugin on the web. Thanx, if anybody can sugest me a link.

                        I use the LSX encoder and it is pretty good. Email me.

                          this is Wally here .... recently I have started capturing video from my video camera and tried editing it and all … I used VirtualDub to capture the video and used Premier to edit it and add music .. here are 2 things that I am having trouble with

                          1) I tend to lose video quality .. Please tell me what compression or output conditions should I use from premier

                          2) Can’t seem to be able to get DivX with sound ( I did that avisynth thingy and was able to open the edited file {from premier} in VirtualDub but I failed to compress it to DivX with sound )

                          Please Help …. Anyone ….

                              Hi guys!
                              Using Premiere 6, if while exporting movie, you choose Microsoft AVI file(and not Microsoft DV AVI file!!!), then , inside settings, you can find all the Divx codecs you have on your computer!!!
                              The quality is Ok and it's easy and fast!
                              ciao!!!
