I have a large AVI file I'd like to split up and rearrange in VirtualDub. When I select the range of video to save, it leaves a bit of an earlier scene at the beginning, from starting at the nearest previous keyframe, and won't let me cut exactly on the frame that I need to. I also tried using the video->select range option, but it gave the same results. It's encoded with Divx 3.11, and has a keyframe every 1 second. Is there some way I can increase the keyframes more, or maybe insert one where I need to? How can I cut on a spot with no keyframe?

If you want to cut the avi out of the kaeyframes you have reprocess the avi in Vdub, activating the "Full processing mode" in video (Too much wok). -
In Virtual Dub it doesnt take that long at all. It takes about the same time as the length of the movie.... That is on my Athlon XP 2200 But I'm sure that it won't take you much longer than that. Just go to Full Processing Mode and choose the right codec and tweak with the keyframe setting. You'll loose some quality though. And next time, just set the keyframes to every 5 frames or something. And dude, encode with DivX 5.0.2.Comment

How to add more keyframes to an existing AVI in Virtual Dub
According to AfterDawn forum (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3924)
Copy/paste from good ol' doom9:
To insert more keyframes load the AVI in VirtualDub, check pop up extended options, then in the next window select rederive keyframe flags. Then set audio and video to direct stream copy and save the AVI again.Comment

I've tried to rekey some of my corrupted AVIs (mp4 encoded) using VirtualDub but have had little luck using the standard "rederive keyframe flags" check box and "direct stream copy" video save.
Only 2 keyframes appear to be present, one on the intial frame and one on the final -
I'm very new to Virtual dub and may be missing somethingComment
