Subtitles not ripped

I've trying to rip "La vita e bella" in greek version.The DVD has subtitles,but when I rip it using smartripper,the subtitles appear as "Not specified".Anyways,I rip the DVD,then I use virtualdub to make my avi.When I insert the vobsub filter,I try to open the idx file for the subtitles but it seems to be empty(although when I open it using notepad it has data in).I downloaded the subtitles in an *.srt form,but vobsub,won't recognise that format.I changed the subtitles to *.sub(subripper) using demux from vobsub,but again vobsub won't recognise the subtitles.I wan't to make an avi with subtitles in,I don't want to load the avi and then load the subtitles (microDVD).Is there any other way I can do that.Is there any way I can mix my avi,with the srt subtitles I allready have?Is there any way I can load the srt using Virtualdub.Finally do you have any idea how to make the movie with the subtitles in?
