    Converting mp4 to avi?

    Hi Guys:

Can I convert mp4 to avi so I can use TMPGEnc to burn it to Dvd? If not, how should I handle an mp4 file if I want to burn it to dvd???

    Thanks,

    jwmghf

      Hey there Lt:

Long time no talk to. Hope things are going well with you!!!!

Anyway, I tried to use Super and create the mpeg II. The file is only 3500Kbs?? It played for about 19 seconds. I'm not sure what I need to do to set up the program properly? What are your thoughts?

      I selected:

      1) mpg (MPEG II) for the Output Container
      2) MPEG-II for the Output Video Codec
      3) mp2 for Output Audio Codec

      Thanks,

          Hey Lt:

It is the Jan 4 build an no it didn't crash. The encode process was entirely too fast though. I can't find if it is set to partial encode. Where would I look for that??? Do I need to set any other settings (ie. Video, Audio, Output)???

          Thanks,

              Hey Lt:

I set the encode time to 7500 seconds. It made the exact same size file in about 30 seconds. I am using media player classic or windows media player. (I want to be able to burn it to a dvd.)

When I try to play it using mpc I get this error:

DirectShowSource: "Could not open as video or audio.
Video returned: "DirectShow Source couldn't open file E:\...\...\...\.mp4
Cannot playback the file. The format is not supported."

And the exact same thing for the audio.

              (C:\DOCUME~1\JOHNMU\LOCALS~1\Temp\xxx~1.MP4.AVS, line 1)

When I hit the Play(Active Files | Streams, the .mp4 file does play the contents.

I currently have these codecs loaded up FFDShow, Xvid, H264 and that it.

              Thanks,

                try this

SUPER is supposed to have everything it needs for this conversion though, others have posted about it here.

you need the appropriate directshow filters. download & install haali's media splitter and a recent ffdshow build

MPC has a built in mp4 splitter and aac decoder. All it should need is ffdshow to decode the video. For other apps though like directshowsource() in AVISynth you would need an external mp4 splitter.

Super can convert via mencoder and ffmpeg, both of which can handle mp4's directly.

TMPGEnc can also handle mp4's if you have the directshow filters installed to play them.

tmpgenc, and in this case, super, use directshow to decode the streams. looks like he's missing the mp4 splitter and was only able to play it before because MPC has its own. i don't use super, but perhaps there's an option to use avisynth of ffmpeg, and avisynth is selected?

in any case, haali's media splitter should get directshowsource() working

I see. i don't work with .mp4 and wish i had one to do some testing with super. i seen someone else just do a one click conversion with mp4 and SUPER here, plus their web site says it has everything internal so i figured it shouldn't require and external filters unlike other software

SUPER has an option where to use directshow but is off on default (i never use it with SUPER) i leave it on ffmpeg.
