Amplifying the volume with Cooledit 2000

I tryed to amplify the volume for an mp3 file (sound for a divx movie) but the result file was whorst then original file.The volume was higher but the quality was poor. The original mp3 file was with variable beat rate but the result file is 44kbps....doono why...
maybe someone can explain me what i have to do to amplify the folume without chianging the quality and the beat rate.

I suggest converting the sound file to .wav file first and then get CoolEdit to increase the volume (transform -> amplitude -> amplify). Then you can convert the amplified .wav file back to MP3, choosing a bitrate of your own liking.

u don't really need to convert it to wav. I did amplify it when I wanted to increase the bass mega.

You just goto process > amplify and there should be an option to amplify the volume.

when you import it into cool edit it automatically changes it into a wav....you should then amplify it as above but then save it as a wav44100..then use another software to convert to mp3 and to make the bit rate variable again.
then again..if you save as 44100 wav then when you make your divx doesnt it convert it for you?

Huh...thats verry complicate. I think that i will start to use GoldWave....is more easyer to use. I change the volume for a file and all is ok with GoldWave. The file was vbr mp3 and after the conversion the beat rate is 128kbs and the sound is great. CoolEdit is a "cool" program but i think that is a little bit complicate. The divx encoding proces i long enought...i dont wanna stay much longer.

I dont see any problem in using Nandub/Vdub? Do you?
