H.264 to Divx or Mpeg advise please

i have some large H.264 HD files and some VC1 bluray files

My system is just short of handling these properly

i can play other HD files , just not these as mentioned

i see many Hidef files in avi/divx-Mpeg format that are said

to retain the resolution/quality of the original files they were

    converted from Ie: H.264

Is it possible to do this without losing quality ? Because the

Large mpeg and .avi HD files i have seem very hi quality and

i`m told they are 1080i in many cases

Can someone please advise me on how to do this conversion

and programs to use , settings to be aware of etc ?

i tried staxrip ,but i always get errors or formats arent supported

i1ve even tried adding as all files , to no avail
It seems i`m just barely smart enough to know how stupid i `am

    Cheers

    Welcome to the forum

Technically there is always quality loss when using a lossy codec. If your graphics card supports WMV acceleration, get the latest drivers.

My system is just short of handling these properly
For H.264, try a recent ffdshow build or CoreAVC (commercial).

If you wish to re-encode, use MeGUI with Xvid.

i`m feeling a tad daft here

So will either of these mentioned programs convert these

HD-H.264 or Bluray-VC1 files , to a divx or mpeg , some file

that my PC can handle ?

      Cheers

ffdshow and CoreAVC are decoders, using them might allow your PC to play the content smoothly so that there will be no need to encode.

If you're still having problems playing them, encode to Xvid with MeGUI.
