      flaskmpeg 6

      i might be a newbee
      but my favorite is
      cladDVD~>flask 6~>Divx4.12/WM8
works good with a little tweaking
tempted to try gknot due to the reactions in the forums
sounds like a rock solid encoder

Thanx for the great number of replies !! Now tell me something
which of this rippers you recommend require you to store the *.vob files in your hard disk prior to encoding the divx file ???

I wrote this because I've tried Rippack and CladDVD and they both need to do so, which is not the case of FlaskMPEG, it encodes directly from the DVD thanx to the dvd mism.

I think Flask and DVDX are the only tools that support DVD->divx conversion directly off the DVD.

Ofcause I strongly advice against this.

I totally agree. Unfortunately, mi HDD is full and now things cost 4 times more here in Argentina. For a while, I'll have to stick to Flask, I think

Smartripper (joins the vob files)....Then Vidomi (excellent program) to encode (can use 3.11a, hybrids and 4.12).

I began with FlaskMpeg 0.594 and divX3.11 alpha.
Then I changed to divX 4.12 2 pass encoding, still using Flask. Very good quality but so slow...

Then I discovered Xmpeg, with which I could do the 2 pass automaticaly and much faster (it was my goal). But this software was a piece of shit. All my windows ressources got used by Xmeg. I could not do anything else on my PC. Sometimes, even mouving my mouse made my PC hang.

So I finally turned to :

                GordianKnot v0.21beta (Smartripper / DVD2AVI / nandub / virtualdub) + divx 4.12

                SO GREAT !!
Very good quality. Possibility to create jobs and then make several divx one after each other. Very fast. And very STABLE...

I also use MicroDvd to make "canada dry" looking DivX with menus, bonus, multiple audio, subtitles and so on.

And Nero cover designer for good looking covers (I know it's a detail, but...)

PS : my divx use AC3 sound.
