DVD to DivX or XviD

Hi folks

This is for the first time I am planning to take a back up of one of my DVDs either in DivX or XviD. So I need some advices on the "how to" front. I thought about Dr. DivX, and I believe it comes free. I also heard about AGK, but I did not find it quite user friendly.

So suggestions please.

AutoGK is the right balance between user-friendly and output quality.

Very surprising. AutoGK,as the name suggests,is pretty automatic. GK may be somewhat more challenging.

Auto gk is very straight forward . Read the easy tutorial that comes with it and you will be happy with the results.
If you know how to configure your codec, dr divx is ok.

I am happy with 128kbps. You might go for 192kbps. I don't think there is any need to go beyond that.

If you are not bothered with filesize go for AC3 . This is the original 5.1 sound. This will be app. 300 mb . You can use 160 cbr for the mp3 ,this is a good allrounder, wich will give you a file size of app.100mb. Odd numbers like 174 or 224 have been known to create issues sometimes on playback.
Yes, thats the instalation and tutorial in one . When you have installed, it will be accessable from your ;start,prog,AGk.

Though I love AutoGk, I've recently been using FairUse Wizard,and IMO it's pretty darn good IMO !!!!

Well I would just like to keep a backup just in case one of the originals become unplayable...in that case I shall still have something to fall back on.

That is sensible.But why do you want to backup as Xvid(unless size is the issue) and not as DVD?

Well size is a factor. I believe that in XviD/DivX I shall get good enough quality for that size.

I need to somewhat resurrect this old thread

I tried AGK, but the real problem is that AGK can not accept multiple vob files. As there are multiple IFO file in that DVD, I can't even have the work around suggested in the above tutorial.

I would love to use AGK instead of Dr DivX, 'cause I prefer XviD as codec.

So is there any other way to back up my DVD9 using AGK?

Long time no see ...

Are you trying to back up the entire DVD? Or these VOBs are just the parts of the movie.

If so, have you tried to make one big VOB from your movie vobs ... and then convert that one!?!?
