    divx to Beta

    I've encountered the following problem:
After embedding the subtitles onto .avi file using Media Subtitler...
I import the .avi file into Premeire to record on Beta Tape...
however, the picture flickers as if it misses some frames and is far below broadcast quality.

I've tried using divx and xvid both show the same problem.
Please advise on how to embed subtitles but retain the original Video quality

    Thanks

You cannot keep original video quality because embedding(hard subbing) the subs into the video involves re-encoding(and subsequent quality loss) of the video. Try to do it with VirtualdubMPEG2 and Textsub/Vobsub filter.

thanks for the quick reply paglamon

if loss of quality is inevitable in hardsubbing to .avi...
is it possible to correct the video quality (i.e. choppy video) using premiere?

I am (obviously) a newbie to all this ...

when using the "embed subtitles" function in DivxLand Media Subtitler the menu that appears i.e. "show me the internals" displays each frame as the subtitles are embedded. Would this mean that there is no frameloss in the hardsubbing process?

I assume the root cause of choppy video when importing it to Premiere and rendering it with Premiere is due to file compression perhaps? i.e. divx video is compressed.

But since each of the frames are accounted for there should be no frameloss in the embedding process.

AviSynth as well as textsub/vobsub filter both showed even worse results with video quality.

Is there any way to produce avi files with hardsubs in Beta video quality?

Why do u want hard subs? DivX compatible players support subs in a variety of formats if they are kept in the same folder as the avi file with the SAME name.
