Desktop icons don't display on TV

    Hi Folks,

I've connected my graphics card to my TV using an s video to composite adapter cable. My eventual aim is to record some still images from the computer screen onto a tape in my VCR or camcorder. But I can't see any of the desktop icons on the TV, or the output from any program I open. All I can see is the Windows screen saver background.

However if I go into the display settings and enable the TV as the primary monitor I can right click on the TV screen and bring up the screen properties pull down menu, By clicking "New" I can drop new icons onto the TV screen, but that's all I can do. I can't get the full desktop to display on the TV, nor (and most important) the output from my apps.

    Can anyone help?

I think you have the TV output on "extend" mode, which extends your current Windows desktop - you need to enable the "clone" mode, which clones your current desktop.

Thanks, but I don't have a clone mode option in my display settings. In the main window I have boxes to check:

Use this device as primary monitor
Extend my Windows desktop onto the monitor

Under Advanced options I have several tabs; General;Adapter;Monitor;Troubleshoot;Color Management

Can't find anything about clone mode under any of those tabs, though there are a gazillion options for resolution, color and refresh rates under "Adapter."

Don't select the "Extend my Windows desktop ..." option - that will enable to the "extend" mode instead of the "clone" mode.

Is it an ATI, NVIDIA or Intel graphics chip?

I got it working, by turning the "Extend my desktop setting off", and then back on again. Hopefully I'll be able to repeat what I did!

          Thanks for your help.
